Beggar and Two Gold Coins

A beggar came for begging in a town. He came there first time so he was expecting much of alms. He begged from morning till evening, in this way he got sufficient amount of cereals.

In evening, when he was returning home happily, he saw that the ride of the King was coming, so he sat on the sideline of road to see the ride of the King. When King’s ride came near him, he got amazed by seeing that the King descended from his chariot and began to come towards him.

King came near the beggar and begged him- I beg you something.

By listening this, beggar got confused and thought- Who is the lord of the entire state, who is the owner of immeasurable property, why is he begging from a beggar?

King told by finding out the solution of suspicion of his mind- Indeed, the state astrologer told that a great trouble is coming to affect the state. He told me, today the first beggar I’ll meet in path that according to his faith whatever alms will give to me, its four pieces I’ve to do and put in all four corners of the state then trouble will be averted.

By listening to King, beggar put his hand in his bag to take out a handful of cereals, then only an idea came in his mind- Today, I’ve got enough amount of cereals if this also I give to the King then what will I take home? Then today also I’ll not have sufficient meal to eat.

By thinking this, he took out only two granules of cereals and said- My lord, at this time I’ve only two granules of cereals!

King thanked him and said happily- Thank you so much! This small alms-deed of you is enough to protect the state.

Then King pointed towards his soldier who gave two gold coins to beggar from the box full of gold coins. By taking gold coins, beggar again got confused.

On this, King said- State astrologer also told that the first beggar would give you as many number of countable things, you give him in return that much number of gold coins.

By saying this, King did four pieces of those two granules and along with his soldiers went towards the four corners of the state.

Beggar was thinking by regretting on his stupidity- Hopefully! If I didn’t hesitate in giving cereals to the King then today my penury would have been washed out.

But alas, then there was no meaning to regret, he went towards his home with only two gold coins.
