One day, a person named Ayaan came to saint Ramdas and told desperately- Earthly
bonds have bound me, I want freedom from all the sorrows of Earthly bonds;
kindly show me the right path.
Saint said- Dear son, Earthly bonds have not bound
you, but you have bound Earthly bonds.
Ayaan amazingly replied- I don’t understand!
Then only nearby, a farmer was forcibly dragging his
buffalo.
By seeing this, saint asked by pointing towards the
farmer- Can you tell me, who is tied with whom out of the farmer and the
buffalo?
Ayaan responded quickly- It’s clear, buffalo is tied with
the farmer.
Saint again asked- Ok, now tell me, who seems the boss?
Ayaan felt it slight question and replied with a
smile- Farmer is the only boss; how can an animal be the boss of a human being?
Then suddenly, the farmer and the buffalo began to run.
Careful viewing revealed that the buffalo was running by breaking the rope. Saint
again asked- Now tell me, what will farmer do?
Ayaan smilingly answered- It’s obvious, now farmer
will run fast to catch the buffalo.
By listening answer of Ayaan, saint explained him- Your
condition is same as the farmer. When the farmer had rope of buffalo in his
hands, you thought that the buffalo is tied with the farmer and the farmer is
the boss; but in fact the farmer is tied with the buffalo and it is the boss of
the farmer. That’s why when the buffalo began to run the farmer also began to
run after it to catch it. In this way, human beings remain unaware of their Earthly
bonds; it causes the sorrows of their Earthly bonds.
In this way, Ayaan had been understood that if we want
freedom from sorrows of Earthly bonds then firstly we have to understand clearly
the Earthly bonds.
