Jenny and her Mother-in-law always had quarrelled with
each other on small-small talks. Her Mother-in-law didn’t leave any moment to rebuke
her and hearing this, Jenny also abused her Mother-in-law.
Not only family members but also neighbours were distressed
by the fight between them. All explained them but they didn’t understand something.
One day, they both read in the newspaper about a saint
who was new in the city. Hearing his fame, Jenny’s Mother-in-law came to meet
him and told her problem- I’m fed up with my daughter-in-law; she always quarrels
with me. Please tell me some measure by which she won’t quarrel with me.
Saint gave hundred sweet candies and said- Whenever
you want to say something to your daughter-in-law then from these sweet candies
put one candy into your mouth. Remember, you should finish your talk till the
candy remains in your mouth.
Same evening, Jenny also came to meet the saint and
told her problem- My Mother-in-law always rebukes me. You tell me such a
solution that she would never say harsh words to me.
Saint also gave Jenny one hundred sweet candies and
said- Whenever your Mother-in-law will rebuke you, put one sweet candy into
your mouth. Keep in mind, candy should remain in your mouth until your Mother-in-law
finish her talk.
Next day, before rebuking Jenny, Mother-in-law put one
sweet candy into her mouth. The candy was so tasty that her full attention went
into its taste and instead of rebuking Jenny, she talked with her softly.
As soon as Mother-in-law said a word, Jenny also put
one sweet candy in her mouth. In this way, her focus also went into the delicious
taste of candy and she listened quietly to her.
This continued for some days, Mother-in-law talked with
Jenny sweetly and Jenny also listened quietly. The environment of home had
become absolutely calm, all family members were astonished but no one understood
the reason of this sudden change.
After some days, those hundred sweet candies got
finished. So Mother-in-law came to meet the saint and incidentally, jenny also
came there at the same time.
Seeing them together, saint smilingly asked- What
happened! Sweet candies got finished?
Both agreed, and said together- Those sweet candies
were magical. Please give us more sweet candies.
Saint explained- Those were not magical candies. Magic
is not of sweet candies but of your tongue. In delicious taste of sweet candies
neither your Mother-in-law rebuked you nor did you abuse her. Magic is all of
sweetness of your tongue, not of sweet candies!
By listening this, Jenny and her Mother-in-law got
embarrassed. They immediately embraced each other and decided to quarrel never in
future.
