Once
upon a time one famous sculptor came to meet King Akbar, he gave three statues
to King and said- Dear Lord, these are the best statues made by me. You accept
them and take care of them.
King Akbar was lover of literature and art. He
liked the statues made by sculptor; accepted all the three statues and
farewelled him with hundred gold coins.
King Akbar appointed a servant to look after
three statues, who everyday cleaned dust from those statues.
One day
while cleaning, one statue broke down on floor by the servant; when King
heard this news, servant was imprisioned
because the statue was much beloved to the King. Therefore on his mistake, he was punished to cut his both hands.
Before cutting his hands,
servant requested King- Last time, I want to touch those
remaining two statues by my hands.
Servant’s
request was accepted. As soon as
servant came near statues, he broke the remaining
two statues by throwing them on the floor.
Seeing
this, King angered very much and
sentenced him to death.
When the Chief-advisor of Akbar, Birbal came to know about this whole incident then he immediately went
near servant and asked- Why have you
broken the remaining two statues?
Servant
replied gracefully- Dear Minister!
the statues were made of china-clay; if not today then tomorrow those statues would have been broken down
definitely. In future, by mistake of breaKing the statues no one else should
get punished, thinKing this I broke those remaining
statues and took whole blame on myself.
Birbal understood the
feelings of servant that he purposely had not broken the statues.
Birbal in order to save the servant
thought an idea, he brought a pot full of china-clay
and by coming close to King, said- Hey
Majesty! This china-clay is very precious. I have found it by much hard work. kindly, accept
it.
King Akbar wittily asked- Birbal,
what is so special in this china-clay that it is precious?
Birbal answered- Lord, it
doesn’t have something special, but I think it is very precious.
King upbraided- Birbal, how can you act so foolishly! rather
than china-clay the utensils and statues made by it are
precious.
Birbal explained- Majesty, I
also want to explain you that in a way the more precious
than china-clay are statues made by it; in the same way
more important than the work done by servant is the reason behind his work. First time, by mistake the staue was broken
by him; second time, he broke the statues because he has
the spirit of philanthropist in his heart; in future no one else would become
part of any punishment on breaKing of fragile statues so he himself broke the remaining statues. What is
the meaning of punishing such a person who thinks for well–being of others?
King Akbar realised his mistake, he suddenly freed the servant and also
thanked Birbal for his logical advice.
Dear friends, Person who does work for the betterment of others, in order to remove their
misery God sends someone to help. So don’t step back in doing work for betterment of others. Thank You.
