Bundle of Woods

St. kumri was a ceramist, and like everyday he was busy in making earthenware. An archimandrite, named Prakash, who was an intelligent scholar, was passing by that side with his group so he came to meet St. Kumri because he had listened about prestige of knowledge and calm nature of St. Kumri.

Prakash thought, St. Kumri would have typical lifestyle and clothes. But reaching there he saw that St. Kumri was in very simple clothes and lifestyle, clothes also had some spots of mud.

While talking with St. Kumri, Prakash felt that his behaviour was very general and straight-forward; and saw that he indulged whole day in social works and making earthenware.

When Prakash couldn’t wait, he asked St. Kumri- Whole day you remain busy in making earthenware, you don’t have time for worship and pray to God, when do you remember God?

St. Kumri came outside from his hut with the archimandrite Prakash.

St. Kumri said- I won’t answer, but shows you practically.

Saint showed him one lady keeping a large Bundle of woods on her head, who was returning back from jungle. She had smile on her face and there was speed in her walk. She had not gripped that Bundle, but even the bundle of woods was sustained easily on her head.

Saint told Prakash- See that lady, she is going in her tune. To make food for her family she is bringing the bundle of woods. Now answer me, would she remember about the Bundle of woods or not, which is on her head?

Prakash replied- Yes, if she wouldn’t remember then the bundle of woods might have fallen down!

Listening these words, St. Kumri quickly replied- This simple lady keeping Bundle of woods on her head goes to home easily; she is also walking in her tune but even she is equally remembering the bundle of woods. Now also you want to ask me that when do I remember God? Making earthenware is the work of body, not of soul. That’s why this body feels delectation in making earthenware, while my soul and mind remember God every time; just like the lady who is walking easily without gripping the bundle of woods on her head, but always remembers about the bundle of woods on her head.

Now the archimandrite Prakash had been known about the simplicity of St. Kumri.

Dear friends, To remember God, worship and prayer aren’t necessary. While doing daily works with true heart and honesty, we can remember God. Thank you.
